We decided to go to Valpraso and check it out.The port was un-expectantly small however the town rose steeply up around the surrounding hills overlooking the bay.  The port consisted of a container terminal, a Naval base and a fishing fleet that had become a tourist boat amada. As you can see the place was spotlessly clean and maintained to a high standard.

The city centre was had been maintained to a very high standard. All the old building were in excellent condition. The City centre had some imposing buildings and the Naval Officers in their uniforms were everywhere. It sure was impressive the pride these people have in their appearance. There is a real bustle in the town and you did not feel overwhelmed by people and the character and history of the town was everywhere. It appeared that people really cared about the town and vehicles did not overwhelm the city with their presence. Most people were walking very well dressed in suits and business clothes. This photograph of the square with the Navel headquarters on the other side.

There were a number of cable cars still running built between 1883 and 1916. When we got into the cable car a number of others joined us and joked about the danger we were facing travelling in the tram. Well it certainly would not be working in our over regulated country however it was an awesome experience and jeez it was old. This town has real character.

The view from the top of the cable car was great.

I loved this bohemian town.

The houses were very ramshackle with a maze of narrow cobblestone lanes and steps leading down to the town below. The roads were winding and narrow with irregular intersections.

The corrugated iron walls of houses were left to rust and others had bright painted tin or weather board.

So we walked down the steps to the square below. Amazing! They had built this new building and left the old buildings walls to surround it.

So we picked up the car and headed back to Vin de Mar. Being off season it was very quiet with a few people strolling the footpath and a couple on the beach. The town itself was lovely with large villas and tall condos along the beach parade.

It has a very run down Pier that has a number of run down tourist shops.

Our guide extraordinaire talked our way into the local Casino even though we were not dressed properly and were carrying bags and wanted to take photographs. No one else would have got in but we had Tita. Then tita took us to a mansion called a palace and talked the Security Guard into allowing us to drive through the parks saying that Rhondda could not walk. Then we got lost in the grounds and a Security Guard had to direct us out of the grounds.

We arrived back at Terresa’s around 9.00 pm  and we met more of the family members. And talked about our days activities. Terresa’s house is on the right.
